Meet the Founder
Built from 20 years inside small business marketing.
The On Fire Group was built around a simple belief...marketing works better when strategy, design, content, websites, and data are treated as one connected system.
The Pattern
Most businesses aren’t struggling because they’re not trying hard enough.
They’re struggling because the way their marketing is set up doesn’t support the results they expect.
Hi, I'm Mike! I’ve spent the last 20 years working in small business marketing, and after a while, I started to notice the same patterns. Most small businesses aren’t struggling with marketing because they’re not trying hard enough. They’re struggling because the way their marketing is set up doesn’t support the results they expect.
When things don’t work, they don’t fix the structure. They change direction. New platforms, new vendors, new ideas. More motion, but not more progress. Or they're just stuck in a perpetual, "dip our toe in and see what works" never committing enough to actually see it work.
I’ve seen the other side of the spectrum too...a business hires a single junior level marketer and expects them to handle everything: branding, content, website updates, SEO, ads, analytics...AND provide the strategy. It’s too much for one person, especially a junior, but it’s a common decision largely due to affordability for small businesses. Other businesses piece things together with freelancers who don’t communicate, or they hire agencies that focus on one slice of the work without understanding how it connects to the rest.
Growth exposes weak systems.
A big part of my experience comes from working with multi-location businesses and franchise systems. That’s where marketing complexity shows up really fast. What works for one location has to work for fifty. Data needs to stay organized. The balance between central compliance and local execution matters.
Most small businesses and emerging franchisors don’t need a massive agency, or enterprise branding agency when they have a handful of successful locations. But they also can’t rely on one person to do everything well. The skills and affordability gap between those two options is vast, and lives right where most businesses get stuck.
Instead of forcing that choice, I built a different model - a fractional marketing option that brings the strategy, design, and execution together in one place. Not as separate services, but as a connected system your business can leverage in smaller doses to get you where you need to be.
The Difference
Activity is not the same as progress.
What I care about is building something consistent. Something useful. Something that can grow with you.

Experience That Spans Decades
I've Been Through Every Major Shift In Modern Marketing
The tools changed. Human behavior largely didn’t.
Over the last two decades, marketing has changed dramatically, and we’ve had to evolve with it every step of the way.
My experience started in print design and small business advertising: direct mail, promotional layouts, camera-ready artwork, signage, and the real-world production details that existed long before drag-and-drop marketing platforms became available.
As businesses moved online, so did the work. Websites, email marketing, paid digital advertising, automation systems, lead generation funnels, franchise marketing support, and marketing infrastructure all became part of the process.
That perspective matters because modern tools can accelerate execution, but they cannot replace experience, judgment, positioning, communication, or the understanding of how real businesses actually grow.
Today, too much marketing is being automated without improving the quality of the materials itself. Strong marketing still depends on the same core principles that always mattered: clarity, structure, consistency, messaging, and human connection.

Fun Fact
When Mike isn't buried in web code or analytics, he studies 20th century design. These covers are parodies of real jazz albums from the 1960's. These digital recreations are a study in lettering and production techniques from a time before desktop publishing. The original designs set the stage for what would become one of pop culture's greatest achievements...album cover art!
